Tacrolimus capsule contains a Tacrolimus that is a macrolide immunosuppressant produced by Streptomyces tsukubaensis. Used together with other medicines to prevent your body from rejecting a heart, liver, or kidney transplant.

Indications
By nephrologists only – for the prophylaxis of organ rejection patients receiving an allergenic kidney transplant.

Mechanism of action
Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressant. In organ transplant patients, it works by suppressing your body's immune response, helping your body to accept the new organ as if it were your own. In allergic eye disease, it works by decreasing the production of chemicals (eg. histamine) that cause allergic eye symptoms such as inflammation (redness and swelling).

Drug Interactions
When Tacrolimus capsule is prescribed with a given dose of a mycophenolic acid (MPA) product, exposure to MPA is higher with Tacrolimus co-administration than with cyclosporine co-administration with MPA, because cyclosporine interrupts the enterohepatic recirculation of MPA while tacrolimus does not. Monitor for MPA-associated adverse reactions and reduce the dose of concomitantly administered mycophenolic acid products as needed.
